Disadvantages
Anything and everything has its disadvantages. The hanging shower caddy is no exception. Let us go through some of the disadvantages of this shower caddy model:

  • If more than tolerable weight is placed in the caddy, there is a risk of the suction cups giving up. This would create ring marks on the wall and also the caddy coming in your way creating discomfort.
  • If you have a heavy caddy, additional weight from the bottles especially, when heavy bottles of liquids are placed in it, would cause damage to the shower head.
  • In case the caddy happens to fall, your bathtub or shower floor could be damaged.
  • The space in a hanging caddy is restricted to two racks and hence may not be advisable for a big family using more number of shower items.

Considering the above points, you must choose a hanging shower caddy if you have a reasonably small family and your shower items are limited in numbers. Otherwise, it is better to opt for a corner shower caddy model.

The Best Way to Save on Shower Doors and Shower Heads for Your Bathroom

April 14th, 2011 by GuestPoster

The bathroom is one of the corners of our houses often left unattended during the planning period. Some people plan out their houses with an architect and all the time are spent on identifying the details of the prominent aspects of the house while the bathroom remains that one corner whose details are made after all the other aspects of the house is completed. Yes, some may have figured out the type of bathroom fixtures like shower heads to choose from and even the shower doors they would like but most often than not, these are among the last things they purchase.

This attitude towards bathroom preparation can unexpectedly cause extra expenses for the owner of the house. Without ample time given in choosing the materials to use and the actual design of the bathroom, people tend to purchase whatever they see and like in hardware or home depots. They may then end up buying shower doors that are not suitable to the overall look of their bathroom. They may also end up buying the most innovative and unique shower heads which unfortunately may cause too much water waste that may leek out of the bathroom because the bathroom is not designed for the type of shower they purchased. Other issues may spring up because of ill planning. They would then have to replace the fixtures they hastily purchased. It would be good if they do not have to redesign a big part of the bathroom because of the necessary changes they have to make after discovering that the fixtures they bought does not work out that well for them.

Bathroom fixtures may not seem that important compared to other home fixtures because these are often concealed from other people but just like any other parts of our homes, it does still need some attention. It is better to plan out the types of shower doors, shower heads, bathroom tiles, and other materials to ensure that you are buying the right ones. Unplanned purchases can cost as more in case we erroneously buy the materials. If you are not sure what bathroom fixture is necessary, postpone your desire to buy one. Be a conscious and thoughtful buyer. Besides, you want the best bathroom for your house too.

Expert Plumber Advice on How to Replace a Shower Door Gasket

April 8th, 2011 by GuestPoster

A mounted shower door is raised about 3/8 inch off the bathroom floor.  While this gap prevents the metal trim or the glass edge from scraping the tile when the shower door is opened or shut, it also allows water to flow out of the shower area.  To remedy this, a shower door is installed with a gasket at the bottom.  This gasket, which is also known as a door sweep, a bottom sweep, or a shower seal, provides a watertight closure.  Since it is made from silicone, it will not scratch the tiles as it gently sweeps across the bathroom floor.  Over time, the gasket on your shower door will begin to leak and will need to be replaced.  Depending on your location, you can click on these links to contact plumbing companies in Boston or plumbing companies in Houston to do the job for you.  However, since this is a moderately easy task, you could probably handle it by yourself.  This post teaches you how.

  1. Examine the bottom of your shower door to determine how the gasket is attached.  Some are secured with adhesive, while others are screwed on.  Use a screwdriver if necessary so that you can remove the gasket from its track.  Gasket adhesive can be scraped off with a putty knife.  Just be careful not to scratch the door.
  2. Use a rag moistened with rubbing alcohol to remove all adhesive residue.  Clean the bottom of the shower door thoroughly using a non-abrasive sponge and some cleanser.  Rinse well and let it dry completely.
  3. On a flat and firm surface, lay out the old gasket and the replacement right next to each other.  Using the old gasket as a guide, cut the new gasket to the required size using a pair of sharp scissors.
  4. If the new gasket has an adhesive backing, peel off the wax backing to expose the adhesive and press it into position along the bottom of the shower door.  Otherwise, secure the gasket into its track and attach the screws you have removed earlier.  Seal with silicon caulking according to manufacturer’s directions and refrain from using the shower for at least 36 hours to allow for curing.

Make Any Bathroom a Showcase with New Lavatory Faucets

April 7th, 2011 by GuestPoster

Homeowners who want to replace their lavatory faucets with something elegant may find what they are looking for in a premier faucet. There are plenty of choices when it comes to styles available so there is something that will fit in with any interior design.

There is no need to settle for a plain old faucet when you can indulge a little and add a touch of elegance to any bathroom with a decorative premier faucet. Upscale bathroom hardware makes a great focal point for the rest of the dcor in the room. A large, ornate spigot and elaborate taps give the feeling of opulence. Combine gold faucets with lots of soft, thick towels for a luxurious touch. You can even have the towels monogrammed if you choose. Accent the room with glass, crystal and mirrored surfaces to make the light bounce around the room. A series of mirrors strategically placed around the room will make the space look much larger than it is.

Gold colored faucets are particularly luxurious and will make a bold statement for anyone who dares to install them. They can take some time to get used to so it is best to make sure you are totally committed to the change before you go with gold. The faucets should match the other hardware in the room so do not choose gold faucets and a silver tub or sink. Contrasting metal tones will interfere with the rich atmosphere most people are trying to achieve when you choose gold hardware. Make sure the individual pieces work in harmony with each other. You do not want them to clash and create a busy environment. Stay consistent with colors and styles and you will end up with a relaxing atmosphere and a bathroom that you can enjoy for several years to come.
