Unique Corner Showers For Your Bath

October 29th, 2010 by GuestPoster

If your bathroom is very small corner showers are perfect for saving space. These types of showers come in many sizes, some as small as thirty inches. There are also much larger sizes to choose from. Many work well in bathrooms that are large enough to accommodate both bathtub and a shower stall. They are made in styles that are plain as well as designs that add an air of elegance and sophistication to your bath. They can be great for everyday use for everyone and accessories are available to make them handicap ready when needed.

For those who are getting up in years or have a disability there are corner showers designed to make it easy to continue this most basic form of bathing. There was a time when only hospitals or nursing homes were the only places these unique showers were found. Not anymore, they can now be purchased and installed to replace the traditional shower or bathtubs most commonly found in homes. Handicap showers are designed with a seat and bar to hold when standing, sitting down or getting in and out of the shower. The floors are designed to prevent slipping and they can be found large enough to easily push a bath chair in and out for those who are unable to stand.

Using this type of shower is not difficult, and it is a great way for the disabled or elderly to regain their dignity by once again, being able to shower alone, without any assistance from family or home care workers. Dealing with a disability or handicap can be hard enough for some; the last thing they want to have to do is depend on others to help them with their most basic grooming routine. If you have an elderly relative or one that suffers from a disability, help them keep their independence by installing a corner shower designed for their needs. This is the greatest gift you will give them.

Choosing Glass Shower Screens

October 21st, 2010 by GuestPoster

Shower covers are not just objects of beauty in bathrooms but are also functional and necessary at times. A lot of homeowners enjoy the coziness that having a shower cover brings to a bathroom. Aside from the increased privacy, a lot of people get covers because it protects the rest of the room from being wet especially after someone has just finished taking a bath. There are people who find wet floors and very moist bathrooms annoying, and having a screen can easily remedy that dilemma. Among the different kinds of screens, glass shower screens are quite popular due to their beauty.

But most homeowners are concerned about safety when getting a glass shower screen. The floor is bound to be slippery and wet inside the bathroom, and knocking over the screen is always a possibility. To have a glass screen topple down and break wouldn’t just be a waste of money but really frightening as well. However, home experts assure everyone by saying that most, if not all, glass screens are made with thick, tempered glass. Tempering is a process wherein the glass is heated to high temperatures so that the molecules could compress into each other and make the resulting glass more impact resistant. Although tempered glass will still break, the advantage is that it will not break into large, sharp pieces but into very small fragments that aren’t as dangerous as the former.

Another issue with getting screens made of glass is the designs. Glass shower screens actually come in more styles and shapes than screens made with other material. Slight frosting is the process that turns the glass rather opaque and less transparent. On the other hand, acid etching is a process where designs and patterns are sued on the material resulting in a colorful and artistic product.

A Travertine Tile Bathroom

October 17th, 2010 by GuestPoster

It is a common or well known fact that the biggest bangs for your remodeling dollar come in the kitchen and bathroom spaces. No matter what you decide to use for color choices or overall theme, you can probably appreciate the look and feel of nice tiles beneath your feet. This is one of those projects that even a fairly adept DIY homeowner can tackle. It does require some know-how and proper skills, but with a little lesson, it isn’t too difficult. Of course, if you want it done more quickly with a more polished look, hire the pros.

A tiling job is something that can give you that fresh new look and help make your space feel cleaner and warmer. In fact, not only will it feel cleaner, but it actually is better for people with allergies and such to the problems caused by carpet. Also, you can do more with heating and cooling features with a tile floor than you can with any other styles. For example, you can use an underfloor heating system to give you radiant heat in the colder months. This can be a more efficient way to help heat your home. At the very least, in a smaller bathroom area, it feels better than walking on cold tile out of the shower every morning.

Making a statement in your bathroom space is as easy as using travertine tiles. They are a natural stone material that has that perfect blend of earth tones and aged old-world feel. They are a favorite in homes that are looking to create that Tuscan or Spanish Villa feeling. They can also be used for in the shower stall or even for decorative elements on the walls. Rather than having a monochromatic look, you can break them up with some other blends and create a look all your own. Part of what makes travertine so unique is that it has natural veining and other patterns that will give your space a one-of-a-kind look and feel.

Tips on Installing Frameless Shower Doors

October 16th, 2010 by GuestPoster

It’s no secret that custom frameless shower doors are very elegant to look at. When glass is installed in the bathroom it can make the room look much larger. Because of this it makes these doors ideal for smaller bathrooms. If you are planning to install frameless shower doors in your bathroom, here are some tips that can help you in your project:

•    Carefully measure your shower so that you are sure you are ordering the right size door. One thing that makes frameless shower doors beautiful is its symmetry. If it is unequal or ill-fitting it will be obvious.

•    Purchase glass that is treated. If the glass is treated it will keep it from getting stained, a common problem with untreated glass. Although it might be a little more expensive than the ordinary glass that is used in bathrooms, it will be worth it since the treatment will last for up to 20 years and you won’t have to do anything but wipe it and just do basic cleaning as there will be no stains to scrub off.

•    When installing the shower door, make sure to secure it properly. The glass can break if the screws are placed incorrectly, so be sure to follow the instructions carefully. You have to know how to handle the glass with care when installing it as well.

•    It will be best to have one or more helpers when installing frameless shower doors. The glass can be quite heavy and it can be difficult to hold it in place as you work. It can also be a safety risk if you try to install it yourself.

•    Use the right tools when doing this project. It is definitely not advisable to use makeshift tools when installing a shower door because glass tend to be sensitive unless you know how to handle it with care. Don’t use screws or bolts that are smaller or basically not the right size as it will make the shower door unstable.

Installing shower doors is a difficult project for most people, which is why a professional glass company is often called to do the job. If you are unsure about any of the steps involved in setting up your new shower doors it makes sense to let a professional do the hard work.

Modernize With a New Shower Screen

October 15th, 2010 by GuestPoster

Though remodeling an entire bathroom can be a time intensive and expensive proposition, there are a few small changes that any homeowner can make to quickly make their bathroom feel like new. By trading your old shower curtain for a shower screen and installing new tile, you can change the look of this room, without needing to undertake any major plumbing projects. As plumbing related jobs will not be required, it may not even be necessary to hire a professional to make these changes. Instead, intrepid do-it-yourselfers can make all these changes in just a short weekend, during which their bathroom will remain fully functional.

Shower screens have recently been featured on television shows and in home design magazines. Unlike shower curtains, which can quickly become dingy with wear, these screens are resistant to mold build up, easy to clean, and give your bathroom a modern feel. Though glass sliding doors can be a hassle to install, as they require a track upon which to slide, these screens do not require that extra step. They are affixed to your shower on one end and will swing into the room to open. Available in sizes that are designed to fit most showers and styles that will suit almost any room’s decor, they may be purchased prefabricated and installed with few tools.

Tiling a shower area is easy. In many cases, the most difficult part of the job is removing the tiles, paper or fiberglass that adorned the wall before it. To create a more interesting look, buy a few different colors of small tiles and create your own design. To stick the tiles to the wall, you need only buy some grout and the few tools required to apply it. Give it some time to dry, and your new wall will be ready.

All it takes is a few small improvements to a bathroom to leave it feeling as good as new.

Folding Shower Screen

October 15th, 2010 by GuestPoster

A folding shower screen is a great way to make the most of your bathroom space, especially if you don’t have enough room for a shower in your bathroom. Easy to install and very easy to maintain, folding shower screens give you the luxury of both a bath and a shower in your bathroom, giving you the best of both worlds while using minimal space.

Many people are put off using an over bath shower purely because shower curtains can be such a pain. While there is no doubt that you can save a huge amount of time and water showering instead of having a bath, some people just can’t be bothered dealing with a shower curtain. They can be incredibly effective, and most of the time they are a great alternative to having a separate shower cubicle, however shower curtains can tear easily, get pulled down and have a tendency to accumulate hard water stains and in some cases start to go mouldy at the bottom as they are always damp and get folded up when they are drawn back. There is also the added hassle of finding that part of the shower curtain has snuck over the outside edge of the bath meaning water has been running down the curtain and onto the floor while you are showering, something that you don’t normally notice until you get out of the shower and find you have to mop the floor.

A shower screen folding door eliminates most of these little irritants as they are made from glass, so don’t go mouldy, are very easy to wipe down, so don’t build up a water residue, and can’t move halfway through showering to allow water to start running over the bathroom floor. Another great thing is that they are very secure so once they are in place there is no danger of them coming off the wall or falling down, something that shower curtains seem to be quite fond of doing. It is fairly easy to buy folding shower screens, and once in place, a folding shower screen can make using an over bath shower the pleasure it should be.

A Bathtub Solution for a Small Home

October 8th, 2010 by GuestPoster

Homes being sold these days are getting more expensive and getting smaller at the same time.  Small sized house limits a lot of luxuries you can have in the home.  Families nowadays prefer to have a bathtub in their bathroom. Traditional bathtubs consumes a lot of space so if you own a small sized house,  what you’ll need is a small bathtub that would fit your bathroom space. One  common solution to this problem is the small bathtub design. There are now plenty of manufacturers of small corner bathtubs as this answers the demand for limited space. IKEA has also capitalized greatly on this trend of smaller sizes of homes.

One way bathtubs have economized space to fit tiny homes is to simply just sit in the bathtub. It used to be that you could lie down inside the tub and have a good aromatherapy as you sleep in a warm tub of water. Now this can only be found in luxury hotels and homes.

Another way manufacturers have modified small corner bathtubs is that they made  some leverage from the ground by providing a platform for the user to stand on. It  gives you the depth needed to enjoy a good bathtub experience while conserving space at the same time.

Manufacturers have also chosen the construction materials to construct these small corner bathtubs to be flexible enough so that they can form the shape necessary to fit into the tiny bath area. The corner bathtub has become common as a result of this.

One of the latest designs in the world of small bathtub is the walk-in type. This design has a door on one side where you can dip into the bath. This door will also be your exit after the bath. This design still allows you to sit down and enjoy your daily baths.  It  is ideal for the elderly and handicapped as it does not require lots of energy to use.

Globally, this trend of having a small bathtub is very evident in young couples who own small homes but still want to maintain a certain sense of luxury by having bathtubs in their homes.
